A study found that plastic bottles of Coca-Cola cans top the list of plastic waste around the world, according to the Daily Mail.

This comes in the wake of leaked documents that revealed that Coca-Cola tried to control the issue by applying a system of deposit and recovery of plastic bottles to protect their profits.

The global scrutiny was carried out by the global movement "Freedom from Plastics", which used more than 72,000 volunteers to comb beaches, waterways and streets around the world for plastic bottles, cups, envelopes, bags and scrap.

After cleaning, volunteers found 50 different types of plastic from about 8,000 different brands.

A total of 475,000 pieces of waste were collected and 11,732 of this waste belonged to Coca-Cola in 37 countries, making it the top contributor to plastic pollution, as well as other brands such as Pepsi and Nestle.

Coca-Cola ranked first in Africa and Europe, and second in Asia and America.

Coca-Cola, for its part, responded, saying that this is unacceptable to us, and in partnership with others, we are working to address this critical global issue.
