The Ukrainian site “Peacemaker” again attracted the attention of Western representatives. This time we are talking about such an authoritative organization as the UN. The deputy head of the mission, Benjamin Moreau, at a meeting of the Ukrainian parliament’s committee on freedom of speech, said that the resource’s activity was illegal and urged deputies to initiate its closure.

“I remind you again and again of one very famous moment - the site“ Peacemaker ”. As you know, the site contains personal data of individuals, including journalists, which violates national laws and international standards. Those whose data is posted on the site are designated as terrorists, separatists and traitors. The discovery of their data, in turn, is a danger to such persons, ”the diplomat stated his position.

The speaker of the Rada, Dmitry Razumkov, has already stated that the parliament does not have such powers, and therefore will not "participate in such processes." This is partly true. The activities of the media are regulated by a special body - the National Council. He issues media licenses and revokes them. But in general, this is a purely formal excuse.

If the authorities considered this necessary, then the law “On the print media” could be amended to restrict the activities of those media that openly violate the law. In addition, deputies are able to simply prepare a statement to the National Council with a demand to deal with the violator.

Let me remind you what the Peacemaker is. It is the base where the personal data of the "separatists", their accomplices, people who visited the Crimea and the territory of Donbass not controlled by Kiev are collected. In addition, information about persons conducting criminal activities to undermine the “foundations of Ukraine’s national security” is recorded there. Addresses, telephones of a significant number of people are in the public domain. The Peacemaker has already been accused of provoking killings.

The most scandal surrounding him erupted after Oleg Kalashnikov, ex-MP from the Party of Regions, and journalist Oles Buzina, whose personal data (including home addresses) were published on the site, were killed in April 2015.

The creator of the site, Anton Gerashchenko, faces criminal punishment in Russia. In October 2015, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against him under Part 2 of Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism using the media and the Internet”). Later, the Basmanny Court of Moscow decided to arrest Gerashchenko in absentia, through one of the social networks publicly calling for the disclosure of Russian military personnel who are in Syria.

This is not the first call to close the Internet resource. Two months ago, the German Federal Government made such a demand, saying that it “absolutely definitely” condemns the notorious Peacemaker website and requires the Ukrainian government and Ukrainian authorities to take steps to remove it. The new ruling team did not respond to the harsh statement of Berlin. Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky had already spoken out on this subject, but it was impossible to understand any of his words. He considers it personally unlawful for him to discuss the activities of the Peacekeeper, but it is absolutely unclear why.

Here are his words: “I have no moral right, because somehow they wrote my spouse there, and then crossed out, they said that it was a mistake. Therefore, I don’t really want to talk about this topic. ” The reason he is allegedly deprived of a “moral right” to say something about an ugly, law-breaking database seems to be drawn from the ceiling. Why is the reason for silence and refusal to make any decisions on the issue is the fact that the data of his wife once got to the site, and then were deleted from there? Does anyone see a causal relationship here? Me not.

The history of the new government is a passionate reluctance to conflict with right-wing radicals. Therefore, it is losing all its positions one after another, even at the risk of provoking the discontent of the West. The Peacemaker is one of the sacred cows for Ukrainian neo-Nazis. Western diplomats should make it clear once and for all that the Zelensky team has not the slightest determination to fight the “active minority”, which is imposing its will on the whole country.
