Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. This malignant disease affects about 15% of women worldwide. However, early screening and health awareness procedures, as well as developments in surgical, radiological and chemotherapy systems, have raised recovery rates to a very high level.

On the other hand, this disease, as well as its treatment, has a lasting effect on the woman's body, which we rarely talk about. Postoperative breast reconstruction remains an incomplete link for women who wish to regain their normal lives. Breast restoration aims to compensate for tissue loss as a result of excision, which inevitably leads to a woman's lack of femininity or loss of self-esteem.

Plastic surgery consultant Dr. Maher Al-Ahdab assures women with breast cancer that surgery is not the end of the world, and that there are many options that allow her to regain the natural shape of her chest as much as possible. ».

Special strap

He adds that one of the simplest non-surgical solutions for women with breast cancer is the use of a special bra, which mimics the usual form of the breast, as it suggests a full position, and removes any difference in size and shape between the breasts. The advantage of this bra is that it is an external solution that does not require surgical intervention, making it easier for all women to use. The downside, however, is that it is simply a camouflage procedure that does not actually restore the breast.

Natural appearance

The traditional surgical procedure for breast reconstruction requires the removal of some skin, fat and muscle from the back, or from the abdominal area, to be used to fill the breast site. This procedure produces a natural appearance, and the desired shape and size can be adjusted using silicone gaskets.

The downside to this procedure is that another area of the body, the abdomen or back, may be weakened by the removal of some muscles, as well as the difficulty in linking veins and arteries between the removed part of the tissue and the chest tissue.

Silicone fillings

Today, there is a new and innovative method of restoring the shape of the breast, using only silicone fillings. Tumor resection can also be performed through breast reduction and lifting, removing only a quarter of the tumor and leaving the rest of the breast intact.
