The video-on-demand giant and the private channel sign a partnership, which must allow Canal +, via an exchange of programs, to stem the fall of its subscribers.

Netflix will announce Monday the establishment of an agreement with the group Canal +. This is to ensure the distribution of Canal + productions on Netflix, and in return for those of Netflix on the platform of the French group.

A win-win agreement

This agreement will allow Canal + to stem the erosion of its subscribers in France by shortly offering part of the Netflix catalog. Viewers already customers at Canal + will no longer need to subscribe to the video-on-demand platform to watch certain films or series.

This agreement is also expected to allow Netflix to accelerate its development, through a partnership with a group that has more than 11 million subscribers worldwide, and which is showing strong growth on the African continent.

The stakes are high, as two major competitors are preparing to enter the video-on-demand market: Apple TV +, which will be available on November 1 for only 4.99 euros per month, and Disney + which will start early 2020 with a catalog of more than 400 films.
