It was in early 2013 that the photo agency Apelöga published its plans at a photographic museum in Malmö. The inspiration was taken from Fotografiska in Stockholm and the idea was to build the museum in an abandoned warehouse building of 12,000 square meters in Frihamnen.

After seven years of work, crowdfunding campaigns and many tours, the photo agency now lets the idea go to the grave, Sydsvenskan reports.

"The hope that we can succeed with this project is dead," writes photographer Adam Haglund, one of the initiators, in a blog post.

From the beginning, the project received both attention and support, including from the City of Malmö, but then the interest cooled.

“It is not the project itself that is wrong - the right people can certainly succeed! - but we're giving up now, "writes Adam Haglund.
