Precious beech virgin forest has spread, and sika deer has been confirmed in the center of the Shirakami Mountains in Aomori Prefecture, which is registered as a World Natural Heritage site.

Sika deer was found in the forest of Ajigasawa Town, Aomori Prefecture, in the Shirakami Mountains, a World Natural Heritage Site, an area called the “core region” where precious beech native forests with little human hands are spreading.

According to the Tohoku Regional Environment Office of the Ministry of the Environment, a male sika deer was captured on the camera set up by the environment office on the 19th of last month.

This is the second time since August that sika deer was confirmed in the “core region”.

Sika deer were once thought not to live in Aomori Prefecture, but more than 200 were witnessed last year and 99 were witnessed by the end of July this year.

The environmental office says, “Sika deer does not seem to breed in the“ core region ”, but if the population increases in the future, there is concern about the impact on the ecosystem.”
