The Sharjah Book Office, the International Book Fair 2019, launched the Sharjah Beach Library initiative, which aims to encourage beach readers in Sharjah to read and enhance their love of reading as part of the celebration of the World Title, which was awarded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ).

The launch of the library comes in cooperation with Culture Without Borders, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shorouq), the Municipality of Sharjah City and Sharjah Ladies Club.

The first stage of the initiative will be the opening of a library on the Al Khan beach in Sharjah, where the office of the International Book Capital will open other branches in the various shores of the emirate. The first library will include more than 100 titles in different languages ​​and subjects.

The rescue platforms on the beach were transformed into paintings, decorated with various prints inspired by books and international stories for children at sea, supervised by six artists of different nationalities.

The launch of the Beach Library was accompanied by a series of cultural and recreational activities for all groups. The Culture Without Borders program was organized by the "Mekatab" initiative, which aims to highlight the achievements and presence of young writers. It opened the door to the public for dialogue and discussion. Beach to participate in a number of games and various recreational competitions.

On the sidelines of the opening of the Sharjah Beach Library, Culture Without Borders launched the Mobile Beach Library initiative, which is a continuation of its initiative launched in 2010 under the title «Mobile Library», where the initiative allocated a library driven by a four wheel drive vehicle to travel in a number of beaches Emirate of Sharjah.

On the launch of the Sharjah Beach Library, Marwa Al-Aqroubi, Director of the Sharjah International Book Project, said: "The Library is the result of the integrated efforts of the various institutions and bodies in Sharjah, aiming at achieving the cultural vision of the Emirate, Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who deserved to crown the World Book Capital.

Al-Aqroubi pointed out that the Sharjah Beach Library is one of the activities of the celebration of the title, which was included in the project agenda, which includes six main axes, the most important of which is the promotion of the culture of reading and community awareness of its importance. .

For her part, Mariam Al Hammadi, Director of Culture Without Borders, pointed out that the initiative is keen to keep abreast of the various cultural events taking place in Sharjah, noting that the achievement of the emirate as the capital of the World Book of 2019 stimulates all cultural institutions and institutions working to increase their efforts, In order to consecrate the culture of reading and reading because of its fundamental developmental impact in building the knowledge society.
