A man convicted of murdering his wife committed suicide in 2003 after the murder of his lawyer, in which he had a relationship, Spanish authorities said.

"Investigators think there is a relationship" between the murderer and his lawyer, and the family environment confirms this, said Carmen Sanchez, the province of Argonne in northeastern Spain.

The lawyer defended the man in 2003 and was sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of murdering his wife.

He was released from prison in January 2017 on condition.

He was found dead in Teruel and threw himself from a bridge, according to preliminary investigations.

Hours later, police found the body of the 48-year-old lawyer with stab wounds.
