The candidate list for the foreign Oscar is back - and again Florian Henckel von Donnersmarcks is there with the film "Work without an author". Overall, five films made it to the list of the best non-English-language films, as the Oscar Academy announced.

The artist portrait (read the film review on SPIEGEL ONLINE) was already nominated for a Golden Globe. At the ceremony in early January, however, the German contribution was defeated by his black and white drama "Roma" by the Mexican Alfonso Cuarón. Furthermore, "Werk ohne Autor" is nominated for the Oscars in the category "Best Camera".

Recently, in 2007, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck brought the trophy to Germany with the Stasi film "Das Leben der Anderen". Before that, there were two other German successes: Caroline Link triumphed in 2003 with "Nowhere in Africa", Volker Schlöndorff 1980 with the film adaptation of the Günter Grass novel "The Tin Drum".

The Oscars will be awarded this year on the night of 24th to 25th February.
