Pollen allergy sufferers should take in the coming days for safety's sake handkerchiefs. The main flowers of hazel and alder are still standing out. Nevertheless, some pollen are already on the way, says Christina Endler from the Center for Medical Meteorological Research of the German Weather Service. The dry and warm weather will increase the pollen count.

The pollen risk index of the German Weather Service (DWD) warns for the weekend almost nationwide before medium exposure to hazel pollen, there are only a few exceptions in southern Germany. The alder, according to forecasts, especially in the north and in the middle of Germany for a low to medium load.

Ash and birch follow in March and April

That allergy sufferers in Bavaria and other parts of southern Germany can still breathe freely, explains Endler with the different plant growth. In many parts of Bavaria and at high altitudes it was still cold and snowy in the past few weeks, so that nature is not yet developed so far.

Next, allergy sufferers have to adjust according to the expert on ash and birch, these trees are blooming in March and April.

More than 15 percent of people in Germany have a pollen allergy and the trend is rising. The consequences range from a runny nose via conjunctivitis to asthma. The severity of the symptoms is directly related to the concentration of pollen in the environment.

Anyone who assumes an allergy should clarify this and treat it in case of doubt. Otherwise the so-called change of floor threatens: from a hay fever develops in ten to 15 years with approximately 40 per cent of the concerned allergic asthma.

Tips - so you avoid unnecessary pollen load:

  • Pay attention to pollen forecast.
  • Make daily nasal douche.
  • Wash hair every night before bedtime.
  • Wash face several times a day.
  • Do not take off street clothes in the bedroom.
  • Regularly wash linens.
  • Change carpets and carpeting to laminate or parquet.
  • Hang wet towels in the apartment - they catch pollen.
  • Keep windows closed - ventilate in the countryside between 7 and 12 o'clock, in the city between 6 and 8 o'clock.
  • Do not spend too long outdoors during the season.
  • After rain, go outside and enjoy pollen-free air.
  • Avoid busy roads - polluted polluted pollen are more aggressive.
  • Keep the car closed when driving.
  • Have the pollen filter installed in the ventilation system of the car.
  • Vote holidays on the pollen season and preferably drive to the sea or the mountains.
