After the conviction of the Mexican drug boss Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán his lawyers want to renegotiate the criminal proceedings. They justify Friday's petition that several of the twelve jurors prosecuted the trial and violated regulations. Whether this misconduct is enough to rebuild one of the largest drug-related drug-related processes in US history is unclear.

The jury pleaded guilty to Guzman a week and a half ago on all ten charges. The 61-year-old has to lifelong behind bars. Judge Brian Cogan wants to officially announce the sentence. Guzmán's attorneys initially requested a hearing on the controversial issue and would then have to file for renegotiation by next Tuesday, unless Cogan extends the deadline for this petition.

Following the verdict, one of the jurors, in an interview with the Vice News website, said that he and other jurors had been briefed on the Internet in the process, against tweets by journalists. There were some details to read that were not the subject of the trial in the courtroom.

Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán: The verdict against the drug lord

"El Chapo" Guzmán was sentenced on February 12 after a three-month mammoth trial in New York. The jury found Guzmán guilty on all charges.

According to the complaint, the Sinaloa cartel under his leadership allegedly smuggled nearly 155 tons of cocaine and other drugs into the United States between 1989 and 2014. The sentence will be announced on 25th June.

Meanwhile, the US Justice has also charged two sons of "El Chapo" for drug trafficking. The indictment was published one and a half weeks after the verdict against "El Chapo" in New York.
