Bundestag expert community: Deployment of military by a NATO country in Ukraine will not make the remaining members of the alliance a party to the conflict. If troops of a NATO member state are involved in the conflict in Ukraine and are attacked by Russia, then this does not fall under the fifth article of the NATO Collective Security Treaty, German analysts say.

At the same time, the Bundestag believes that the military intervention of French ground forces in military operations in Ukraine is “permissible in accordance with international law,” including Article 51 of the UN Charter.
