New York City approves congestion toll. From June it will cost $15 to drive to the southern part of Manhattan.

The aim is to reduce traffic and raise a billion dollars a year to invest in local public transport. However, lawsuits are still pending against the New York Transportation Authority's decision. London and Stockholm already have city tolls, as does Singapore - but in America New York would be a pioneering city: a city toll is to be levied from mid-June. The toll will be $24 for small trucks and $7.50 for motorcycles. There is a $1.25 surcharge for taxis to the area.
