The job search benefit is an allowance paid by the government through the Employment Insurance Fund to the jobless.

It was the first time since the introduction of the Employment Insurance System in 1995 that the monthly job search benefit amount exceeded KRW 1 trillion.

The rapid increase in job search benefits was due to an increase in the number of unemployed people due to the corona19 crisis.

The number of new job applicants last month was 111,000, an increase of 32.1% from the same month last year (84,000).

The number of job seekers increased by 34.8% to 678,000, the largest ever.

The Ministry of Labor explained, “In addition to the increase in new job applicants, the extension of the payment period and the increase in the amount of per capita were combined with the increase in the amount of job search benefits last month.”

Last month, the number of people with employment insurance was 1,382 million, an increase of 155,000 (1.1%) from the same month last year.

Compared with the drop in monthly employment insurance subscribers from 376,000 in February to 253,000 in March and 163,000 in April due to the impact of employment caused by the Corona 19 crisis, the situation is somewhat calming. It is seen.

The service industry's employment insurance subscribers were 9437,000 last month, up 194,000 (2.1%) from the same month last year.

The increase was larger than April (192,000).

Among the service industry, public administration (43,000) was the most noticeable increase in employment insurance.
