08 August 2019An Israeli soldier was murdered last night and the body found along the road in the Etzion settlement, near Hebron, in the West Bank. The military radio said that the soldier, an 18-year-old student of the military school whose trail was lost on Wednesday, was repeatedly stabbed by bombers who then fled.

The military authorities explained that the young man was not in uniform and was not armed. The army statement does not make assumptions about the responsibility of the assassination, but there seems to be little doubt that it is a Palestinian attack. Extensive research is underway, the military is in a state of alert.

Netanyahu: soldier killed, 'we chase the sinister terrorist'
"The security forces are now engaged in a hunt to capture the sinister terrorist and settle accounts", Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu said in a statement, after learning of the killing of a soldier in the West Bank. For the moment it is not known whether it intends to convene the Government's Defense Council today.

For his part, former defense minister Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the right-wing secular party Israel Beitenu, has already criticized him. "Our surrender to terrorism in Gaza - he observed, referring to Netanyahu's caution in the face of Hamas - leads to attacks in Jerusalem and Judea-Samaria (West Bank)". He referred, among other things, to an attack in Jerusalem, foiled in extremis in recent days by the Israeli secret services, which had been designed by a cell of Hebron on education from Gaza of the armed wing of Hamas.
