Temperature records

Forecasters of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia note that the first month of the summer in Russia as a whole turned out to be very warm. Its average temperature closed the first three of the highest values in the entire history of meteorological observations since 1891. June was only warmer in 2012 and 2016. However, the temperature background of the month turned out to be uneven.

The scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, previously told RBC that the first half of 2020 was the warmest in the history of meteorological observations. From January to June, weather forecasters recorded different temperature records in many regions of the country.

“The first six months of 2020 were the warmest in the history of instrumental meteorological observations in Russia,” said the weather forecaster.

January 2020 was declared the warmest in Russia over the past 140 years. In April, in the European part of the country the average temperature exceeded the norm by five degrees. In May, Villefand said that the extremely warm weather in Western Siberia lasted at least 40 days, which became an “extreme event”.
