This is good news that puts an end to months of worry for the 2,500 employees of the ArcelorMittal site in Fos-sur-Mer, near Marseille and for all local economic players.

After months of hiatus, the second blast furnace at this plant of the ArcelorMittal steel group is being restarted.

ArcelorMittal shut down this blast furnace on March 23 to adapt to a drop in demand for steel from the automotive industry due to the spread of the coronavirus and containment measures.

The process "started a week ago, is still ongoing" and may take several days due to its complexity, said site spokesperson Emilie Chailleux
