AR technology for car navigation is being adopted in the automobile industry one after another September 21, 10:56

There are a series of moves to incorporate AR = augmented reality technology in order to make the directions safer by projecting images that are almost the same as the scenery seen by the driver on the car navigation system.

Of these, Mercedes-Benz of Germany is equipped with a car navigation system using AR = augmented reality technology in the new model launched this month.

The camera attached to the front part of the car displays almost the same image as the driver actually sees on the display, and the route guidance function displays the arrow as if it overlaps the course.

When approaching an intersection, the screen switches to an AR screen, and it is possible to intuitively grasp the direction of travel even at complicated intersections.

Akira Watanabe, who is in charge of product planning, said, "We can reduce the possibility of rushing on an unfamiliar road and leading to an accident. We would like to expand it to other vehicle models."

Meanwhile, car accessory maker Seiwa is selling a retrofit car navigation system with an AR function from this month.

In addition to being compatible with highway interchanges, it also has a function to make a warning sound when it goes out of the lane, and we plan to sell it to corporations such as transportation companies.

Although AR technology is used in various fields, it is being widely used in the automobile industry with the aim of improving safety.
