"Without any operation, I woke up, but the funds on the bank card were taken away." At present, the hacking of bank cards is becoming more and more powerful, making people difficult to prevent and causing concern.

On July 27th, the Haigang Economic Development Division of the Public Security Bureau of Tangshan City, Hebei Province stated that the police successfully destroyed a telecommunications fraud group that used "SMS sniffer" to commit crimes. According to the police, the use of "SMS sniffer" allows fraud gangs to "obtain information from others anytime, anywhere" and "to steal money without any operations from the other party."

So, how did the criminals do it? It turned out that criminals took advantage of the flaws in 2G mobile communications and used pseudo base stations with cracked mobile phones to assemble them into a "SMS sniffing" device that could capture mobile phone numbers within a certain range. Criminals often use "SMS sniffing" equipment in the middle of the night while people are asleep, intercept the content of the victim's mobile phone text messages without disturbing the victim, use the intercepted SMS verification code to log in to multiple payment platforms, modify the bank password, The funds are transferred from the bank account.

In daily life, how should individuals prevent such acts of bank card fraud? Anti-fraud experts said that at present, "SMS sniffer" devices can only intercept 2G network information. Individuals can activate the VoLTE function on mobile communication devices to allow text messages to be transmitted only through 3G or 4G networks, thereby preventing text messages from being sniffed under 2G networks Detection equipment intercepted. In addition, individuals can turn off the phone or switch to airplane mode while sleeping.

Pan Helin, Executive Dean of the Institute of Digital Economy of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, said in an interview with a reporter from Economic Daily: “Financial consumers’ bank accounts should be bound with special mobile phone numbers as much as possible. Maximum limit per day. Try not to open online banking for important bank accounts, and try not to bind third-party payments. When you need to use mobile payment, try to use the operator’s 3G or 4G data traffic, and try not to use unreliable public wifi networks If you are not operating by yourself and suddenly receive verification codes for important accounts such as bank cards, you should freeze the bank card as soon as possible."

If a personal bank card is stolen, how should I protect my rights? Experts believe that banking institutions have the responsibility and obligation to prevent fraud, and individuals should actively collect evidence to protect their rights. Pan Helin said that if the bank card is found to be stolen, the bank card should be frozen as soon as possible, the transaction record should be kept, and the customer service number of the card issuing bank should be called to verify whether there has been any abnormal change in the bank card account. In addition, individuals should immediately conduct inquiries, deposits, and other transactions at the nearest card-issuing bank's service outlet ATM or bank business premises to prove that the personal card is not separated, no bank card is abandoned or lost, and there is no malicious collusion between the cardholder and others. The behavior of the bank’s interest.

Dai Shuguang, a senior partner of Hunan Riyueming Law Firm, said that after a bank card stolen or swiped, the police should be reported in time. "Police records and investigations have a great impact on the success of rights protection. In most of the existing judgments, the bank card owner himself can prove that the bank card has indeed been stolen, and will judge the bank to bear certain responsibility." Dai Shuguang said.

Experts suggest that greater efforts should be made to combat telecommunications fraud and protect the rights and interests of financial consumers. Zhen Xinwei, a researcher at the Institute of International Monetary Studies at Renmin University of China, said that public security agencies should continue to increase their efforts to combat telecommunications fraud, with particular attention to emerging telecommunications fraud methods and cross-border telecommunications fraud. While combating telecommunications fraud, we must also do a good job in social publicity, promptly publish new telecommunications fraud methods, and raise the awareness of telecommunications fraud risk prevention among banking institutions, bank customers and telecommunications institutions.
