  • Coronavirus: airlines and large tourist groups in the United Kingdom ask the British government to end the quarantine of Spain

The Anglo-German tour operator, TUI, has announced this Friday that it extends the suspension of its vacation packages to the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands until August 10 , and its trips to peninsular Spain until 17.

Also, the company indicated that it will add seven flights on August 8, 9 and 10 to holiday destinations in Greece and Turkey, after noting "an overwhelming demand from customers to make trips this summer." He noted in his statement that after the first offered flights were sold out, the company is again offering routes to Crete, Rhodes, Zante and Corfu in Greece and Dalaman and Antalya in Turkey next weekend.

In the note, the managing director of TUI in the UK and Ireland, Andrew Flintham , states that 70% of customers who have seen their holidays canceled due to restrictions imposed to combat the coronavirus " are changing their reservations to other destinations " .

The Anglo-German company announced the suspension of its packages to Spain, initially for fewer days, after the British Government imposed a mandatory quarantine on July 26 for passengers arriving from the country due to the rebound of the pandemic.

Flintham reiterated today a request to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government to "remove the quarantine approach and consider the rapid introduction of regional travel corridors, " as "the level of uncertainty and confusion generated this week is damaging to business. and consumer confidence in travel "

Faced with complaints from the tourism sector and the Spanish Government, the British Executive is now considering reducing confinement days from 14 to 10 and the possibility of establishing regional air corridors with areas less affected by the virus, such as the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
