Machinery order statistics in May Increased for the first time in three months, but the keynote decision remains unchanged July 11 at 11:24

The orders received by major machinery manufacturers in May, which shows the future of corporate capital investment, increased 1.7% from the previous month, increasing for the first time in 3 months.
However, due to the modest increase, the keynote judgment that "the feet are weakening" has been deferred.

According to the machine order statistics released by the Cabinet Office, the amount of orders received by major machine manufacturers from domestic companies in May this year was 765 billion yen, excluding volatile ships and electricity.

It was 1.7% higher than the previous month and increased for the first time in 3 months.

In the non-manufacturing industry, orders from the “transportation/postal industry” and “financial/insurance industry” increased, resulting in an increase of 17.7%.

On the other hand, in the manufacturing industry, orders decreased from “production machinery” such as machine tools and “chemical industry”, resulting in a 15.5% decrease.

As a whole, orders received fell sharply in April, and the rate of increase in May was modest, so the Cabinet Office left the keynote decision that it is "weak."

The Cabinet Office said, "The non-manufacturing industry is solid, but the accommodation industry and the restaurant industry, which are greatly affected by the new coronavirus, have small orders, so it is difficult to reflect them in the statistics. And the effect of the spread of infection continues."
