  • Telecommunications: Huawei breaks with US technology

The possible reversal of the British Government in the concession of part of the infrastructure of the G5 network to Huawei has triggered an intense diplomatic war between London and Beijing in the last hours.

Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom Liu Xiaoming has assured "Premier" Boris Johnson that such a decision would cloud the relationship between countries and send "a very bad signal to Chinese companies."

"We want to be your friend and your partner," said Xiaoming . "But if you want to treat China as a hostile country, you will have to bear the consequences ."

The relationship between the two countries has deteriorated significantly in recent days as a result of the Hong Kong Security Law. London has accused Beijing of violating the "one country, two systems" principle and has opened the doors of British citizenship to three million Hong Kong people.

"Premier" Boris Johnson raised his rhetoric and said he is not willing to allow "hostile state providers" in the United Kingdom , in what is interpreted as a veiled reference to Huawei. Johnson has examined these days the latest report from the National Cybersecurity Center that concludes that Huawei's technological capacity has been seriously diminished by the veto imposed by US President Donald Trump , who considers it "a security threat" due to its ties. with the Chinese government.

China influences in favor of Huawei

Tensions have been exacerbated in recent hours following the publication in The Daily Mail of a report titled " China's Elite Capture " revealing an alleged campaign by Beijing to influence British elites in favor of Huawei and other Chinese companies. The 86-page report was produced by controversial ex-MI6 spy Christopher Steele , also involved in the "Russiagate" about Moscow's interference in the US presidential election.

The report details a long list of politicians, businessmen and academics as China's potential "targets": from Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Wollaston to businessmen Kenneth Olisa and Mike Rake. All of them have denied their involvement in the alleged plot.

A total of 59 conservative MPs , led by former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith, have meanwhile threatened to torpedo in Parliament the granting of part of the 5G infrastructure to Huawei for security reasons. The Chinese company has just celebrated the 20th anniversary of its establishment in the United Kingdom and plans to build a research center in Cambridge.
