"Let's talk about it quietly to possibly work on something at the start of the school year, but this time be lasting." Medef wants the coverage of partial unemployment not to drop again before the start of the new school year, its President Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux said on Friday.

"I agree to discuss it, but we should not change something that has just been installed on June 1 to July 1 or August 1, it would be absurd," he said on the sidelines of a visit to a Suez waste recycling site in Limeil-Brévannes, in the Paris suburbs.

A drop in management mentioned

The coverage of partial unemployment introduced at the start of confinement increased on June 1 from 100% to 85% of the compensation paid to the employee, with the exception of sectors subject to restrictions due to the health crisis such as tourism or catering.

Secretary of State Agnès Pannier-Runacher spoke on Friday of a drop in this support for companies of around 10%, before retracting.

"There are sectors which unfortunately will be forced to stay long enough in this system, so let's talk about it and discuss it," said the president of the employers' organization, adding that he would see the Minister of Labor, Muriel Pénicaud, Monday on this subject.

Still uncertain figures

On Thursday, Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux asked the government for "reliable" figures on partial unemployment and indicated that it was a prerequisite for him before reviewing the device.

According to him, the Minister of Labor "overcommunicated over 12 million, 13 million workers on short-time work", while the figures from the Ministry of Labor reported 8.6 million beneficiaries of the device for the month of April, and that those for the month of May are not yet known.

Economy

The precipitous fall in partial unemployment is a "mistake" according to Medef, a "madness" for the CFDT
