Feast of pilgrimage, the Jewish Passover (Pesach) is traditionally a period when the Israelis move. Many religious Jews come to pray in Jerusalem, and families gather for the seder, the first evening ritual. But for Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu , there is no question this year of a big family table. The coronavirus pandemic is changing habits.

Each family will have to organize their own Passover 'seder'. Celebrate only with your immediate family members who are currently with you at home. I know it costs us a lot, but there is simply no choice. We will strictly enforce this containment, ”said the Prime Minister.

We know that this year you may not be able to celebrate #Passover with all of your loved ones, but we're here to celebrate virtually with all of you!

" Everything we do, we do for the safety of people "

From this Wednesday afternoon, a full curfew will be imposed on the country until Thursday morning. No one shall be allowed to be more than 100 meters from their home. As of Tuesday evening, travel between cities, already prohibited, was more strictly controlled.

We have a very large number of police officers who will patrol and move around. We also have mobile roadblocks that will change locations every 20 or 30 minutes. We will make sure there is a minimum of movement. Everything we do, we do for the safety of people, ”said Micky Rosenfeld, a spokesman for the Israeli police.

Firmness that builds on lessons learned from the celebration of Poutim in early March, according to Benjamin Netanyahu. The rallies then organized contributed to the spread of the virus in the country. So far, Israel reports more than 9,200 cases of Covid-19 and 65 deaths according to the latest assessment by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
