The Minister of Public Accounts, Gérald Darmanin, announced this Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. of TF1 that he postponed the opening of the declaration on income from April 9 to 20 and that he suspended tax controls, particularly in the most affected sectors by the coronavirus crisis.

"I made the decision, after informing the Prime Minister, to postpone the tax return for a week," he said on TF1. "We should have declared income from April 9. We will do it from April 20, ”he said.

Gérald Darmanin, who referred taxpayers to the online tax site to find out how much time they have to complete their declaration according to their region, also indicated that people who file their declaration on paper could file it until June 12 , one month longer than initially planned.

Suspension of tax audits

The Minister also stressed that the current tax audits would be suspended and that there would be no new ones during this period of confinement in sectors "at a standstill" such as catering.

"In this extremely particular period, I gave the order (...) to suspend the controls that existed before the crisis (...) and not to actually do the tax controls especially in the areas that are stopped and d 'rather be in support of businesses,' he said.
