Daihatsu to temporarily suspend operations in Shiga Prefecture on March 31 18:16

Daihatsu has announced that it will suspend operation of its plant in Shiga Prefecture from April 13 to 21 due to the difficulty in procuring auto parts from overseas due to the spread of the new coronavirus. In addition, the impact on domestic production of automakers is spreading further.

Production will be suspended at Daihatsu's Shiga No. 2 Plant in Ryuo-cho, Shiga Prefecture.

According to the company, the procurement of parts from Southeast Asia has been delayed and the operation will be stopped from April 13 to 21.

The plant manufactures its mainstay mini vehicles and produced 260,000 vehicles, which is about a quarter of the company's domestic production over the past year.

Among Japanese automakers, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, etc. have also decided to suspend domestic production because parts procurement is becoming difficult and overseas demand is declining. The impact is even more widespread.
