German Finance Minister Hesse Scheffer committed suicide on Saturday because of "deep concern" over the economic repercussions of the outbreak of the Coruna virus, according to state head Volker Boffer.
The body of the minister, 54, was found, married and father of two, near a railway line. The Wiesbaden prosecutor suggested that Schiffer had committed suicide.
Fischer has been in charge of the state finance ministry for ten years, which includes Frankfurt, the financial capital of Germany, the headquarters of the European Central Bank and major German banks.
In a recorded statement, Bouvier said Fischer was working "day and night" to help companies and employees cope with the economic repercussions of the emerging coronavirus, declared by the WHO as a "pandemic", expressing "shock" at Jarmi.
"Today we can consider that he had a great concern," said the head of the state government, who is close to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, of the Christian Democratic Union, of which Scheffer was a member.
"We need someone like him in these particularly difficult times," said Bouvier, who was moved.
