Fear of the emerging coronavirus (Covid 19) caused the first buying fever in Germany.
Several store chains reported Friday that there has been a noticeable increase in product sales figures, such as canned goods or antiseptics.
Some stores reported a shortage of some products as a result of increased purchases.
The "Liddell" store chain stated that it recorded a noticeable increase in sales, especially preserved foodstuffs, such as canned and pasta, in addition to toilet papers and disinfectants. Liddell confirmed that it is working extensively to provide goods in its branches.
"Aldi Zod" store chain also talked about the heavy demand for products, confirming that its branches are ready for this and raising its store inventory.
"Aldi Nord" store chain recorded a big increase in some branches, in order to save preserved food and hygiene products. The chain stated that this may lead to a temporary deficit in some products, excluding the occurrence of a widespread deficit at present.
Also, the chain "Kaufland" stores talked about the possibility of a temporary deficit in the event of a large demand for products.
Although more than 20 new cases of mutated Corona virus are registered, the German Robert Koch Institute for Research and Analysis considers that the virus is not widespread in Germany.
The institute's deputy director, Lars Shade, said today, Friday, that the assessment of the risk status ranges between limited and moderate.
According to the institute’s data, the number of new SARS-Cove-2 cases has reached more than 20 as of Thursday. This brings the total number of cases in Germany since the beginning of this year to more than 45 cases.
