The Council of Ministers has approved in its royal decree law of urgent measures for the field the reduction of the number of days necessary for access to unemployment benefits and agricultural income of temporary agricultural workers resident in Andalusia and Extremadura, from 35 to 20 peonged

This decision tries to stop the protests in two of the regions that have most clearly expressed concern about the fall in the price of agricultural products. "This measure is carried out after the verification of a decrease in olive production, together with the difficulties posed by the tariffs imposed by the US to this sector, together with the element of weather as an aggravating element," said the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

Also at the proposal of that ministry, a mechanism for the conversion of temporary contracts of temporary agricultural workers into indefinite contracts has been introduced.

This decision is about "encouraging that work in the field be more stable and, as far as possible, combat the temporary nature of agricultural work", as reported by the area of the Executive led by Yolanda Díaz in a release. The mechanism is based on the decree law that in March of last year was already dedicated to "social protection" and to the "fight against job insecurity," according to the Government's proposals.

The measure would reward companies that convert temporary contracts into indefinite in the case of agricultural workers, a bonus that would be greater if the employees are women .

Protests and withholdings on the A-4

Farmers and ranchers have returned to demonstrate on Tuesday, cutting the A-4 in Jaén and most of the accesses to Seville, Efe collects, with the intention of demanding more support to the field. The protests, which began almost a month ago, coincide today with the Government's first measures to address this problem.

Some three hundred olive growers in Jaén have blocked the A-4 this morning at the height of the town of Santa Elena, with olive oil as the main protagonist of their claims. The highway has been blocked in both directions, with retentions, at the door to Andalusia from the center and north of the Peninsula. Agricultural organizations have been unmarked from this court, without authorization from the Government Subdelegation.

In Seville, hundreds of tractors of farmers and ranchers, have interrupted four of the five road accesses to Seville : the A-49 motorway at the height of Benacazón, the A-92 in Aguadulce, the AP-4 between kilometers 53 and 54, and the A-4 motorway in Carmona.
