The Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) has announced that the UAE will complete the implementation of the international measurement units system in the coming year, in line with the start of the implementation of the system issued by the Authority to switch from the measurement system «Tula» to «grams» in the perfume sector, which is set for the beginning of February 2020 .

Amina Hassan Zainal, Director of Metrology Department, said in a press statement that the UAE will be the first in the Gulf to unify its measurement systems with the recognized international standards, and it will be an important step to achieve the transition to the application of the system for measurement units, while it could not Several countries, including the United States, have implemented this, with the high cost, effort and time required to achieve standardization standards with international measurement systems approved by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.

She added that the comprehensive application of international measurement units supports tourism activity by keeping pace with the state markets for units of measurement known to tourists from most countries of the world, thus facilitating the movement of tourists in the country with no need to convert units in products or transactions to other units.

Zainal announced that «specifications» intends to implement a new initiative during the next year, including the deployment of measurement and calibration capabilities of the International Bureau of Weights and Measurements in order to obtain mutual recognition of calibration certificates for units of measurement.
