Tesla boss Elon Musk has expressed interest in working with Daimler on its planned electric version of the Sprinter small truck. "Maybe interesting to work with Daimler / Mercedes on an E-Sprinter", tweeted Musk. "This is a great van, we will investigate."

Tesla did not respond to a request for a musk tweet. Daimler declined to comment on whether the group was open to work with Tesla. A spokesman said only, one is pleased about Musks interest in the Sprinter.

Daimler responded flatteringly on Twitter, but kept his head down: "Thanks for the flowers! And yes, it's a great van ...", it said there.

Thanks for the flowers! And yeah, it's a great van ...

The outgoing Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche had not recently ruled out a collaboration with the US electric car pioneer. The Polish daily Rzeczpospolita told Zetsche at the end of October that he had never regretted the sale of Tesla shares four years ago. But that does not exclude cooperation in the future.

Daimler sold its 4% stake in Tesla in 2014 for $ 780 million. A financial participation is no longer necessary to continue the cooperation with Tesla, the group had justified the step then. The Stuttgart want to compete with their first all-electric SUV Tesla, which dominate the market in the luxury segment.
