The production of the electrified compact SUV is to begin at the Leipzig location from the beginning of the next decade, and the sales launch is planned for 2022. "Our goal is a technological pioneering role," said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume the SPIEGEL, "We now want to go into the future without emissions."

Same range as a combustor

Parallel to the electric version of the Macan, there should also be a variant with further developed combustion engine. However, this is just an update for a transitional phase. In the long run, Porsche wants to focus on the Macan on electric mobility. Modern battery technology should make it possible for the electric SUV to have the same range as today's combustion engine.

As the first all-electric Porsche, the sports car Taycan is expected to hit the market at the end of the year. The group says that the interest in the new vehicle is great. For the Taycan 20,000 prospective buyers have already made 2,500 euros deposit.

The new electric vehicles are part of an ambitious electrical strategy. By 2025, at least half of the sold Porsche will have an electric drive.
