He said that in January, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, following negotiations with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, allowed the continuation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine in 2025.

“As far as we know, other Europeans are in no hurry to put an end to this issue,” Polishchuk noted.

According to him, Shmygal has repeatedly said that although Ukraine itself will not negotiate with Russia and extend the existing contract or sign a new one with Gazprom, this can be done by the EC or a group of European states that are interested in preserving transit.

On March 18, the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, announced that Kyiv does not plan to extend the gas transit contract with Gazprom after December 31, 2024.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin emphasized that the Kyiv authorities continue to receive money from Russia for gas transit.
