Here are the favorites for the Nobel Peace Prize

The advance tips have largely been about Greta Thunberg. She has laid the foundations for a global climate movement that mobilizes young people worldwide. She has held an acclaimed fire speech before the UN General Assembly and in a relatively short time has established herself as one of the world's heaviest public opinion leaders.

According to several betting companies, which give her odds about 1.5 times the money, she now has a great chance of becoming Sweden's sixth peace prize winner through the ages.

However, when the Norwegian Peace Research Institute Prio lists its favorites for the prize, Greta Thunberg is not included.

- There is a very strong youth engagement in the world right now. Greta may be the main representative for this, but there are many others who are active in especially democratization processes, says Prio Chief Henrik Urstad.

He particularly highlights youth activists Hajer Sharief from Libya, lwad Elman from Somalia and Nathan Law Kwun-chung from Hong Kong.

However, Henrik Urstad believes that this year's prize goes to a journalist organization.

- We know that independent journalism is a key part of the democratization of states, and that democratic states are more peaceful. Moreover, in today's society where the debate about fake news is alive, it is important that we support independent journalism.

He mentions, among other things, the American organization Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the Turkish news magazine Cumhuriyet as possible prize winners, but keeps the Reporters Without Borders organization as his personal favorite.

- I think the award goes to Reporters Without Borders, he says.

Agnes Hellström, chairman of the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Association, both believes and hopes that the peace prize goes to the climate movement Fridays for future - the global grassroots movement with climate-striking youth inspired by Greta Thunberg.

- I think it is time for the climate issue's connection to the peace issue to be made visible. Without a sustainable climate, we cannot build a lasting peace, ”she says.

Although Greta Thunberg is the obvious front figure, she would rather see the price go to the movement at large.

- Greta constantly repeats that she wants to get the focus away from her person and instead focus it on the research. In addition, she is not the first to be involved in the matter, says Agnes Hellström.

Other preliminary candidates include Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. He gives low odds to the gaming companies after being a driving party in the historic peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea, which was signed last year.

- He is a worthy recipient, but it is rarely just a person behind a peace agreement, says Agnes Hellström.

- But it would have been positive to highlight a successful example of a solution to a situation that has been locked for many years, she continues.

Other candidates who have been featured in the preliminary tips are Brazilian indigenous leader and environmental activist Raoni Metuktire, who for many years fought for the rights of indigenous people and for the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, as well as New Zealand's Prime Minister Joyce Arden, who was widely praised for his involvement in the Christchurch terrorist council.
