Microsoft announces the hiring of Sam Altman, the former boss of OpenAI
The tech giant, Microsoft, will hire Sam Altman, co-founder and former number one of the start-up OpenAI, Satya Nadella, the boss of the American company, announced on Monday, November 20, three days after the sensational announcement of the dismissal of the Silicon Valley star.

Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, both co-founders of OpenAI, "will join with other Microsoft colleagues to lead a new AI research team," Satya Nadella wrote on X (ex-Twitter). "The mission continues," Sam Altman, 38, reacted to the announcement on the same social network. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI, the startup that launched the generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform ChatGPT, and has integrated the technology into its own products, such as the Bing search engine.
Surprise
OpenAI's board of directors had created a surprise on Friday, November 17, by announcing the dismissal of the Silicon Valley star with immediate effect following "a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he had not always been candid in his communications with the board, impeding his ability to fulfill his responsibilities." It no longer has "confidence in its ability to lead OpenAI," she added at the time.
Several executives at the company - founded in late 2015 - have since announced their resignations, including board chairman Greg Brockman. The release of the first version of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022 kicked off a race in artificial intelligence (AI).
Revolution
Widely considered to be a revolution comparable to the advent of the internet, generative AI makes it possible to produce texts, lines of code, images and sounds on a simple query in everyday language. It also raises serious concerns about the dangers to democracy (massive disinformation) or employment (replaced professions), among others.
