A traffic of highway codes obtained against money has been dismantled, said Saturday to AFP the gendarmes of the community of brigades of Vesoul, confirming information from L'Est Républicain. Investigators determined that a total of about 1,400 codes were illegally obtained as part of the nationwide trafficking.

Three inhabitants of Vesoul animated this network locally

The case began in May 2023 through information obtained by investigators from the Vesoul brigade community that it would be possible to obtain the examination of the highway code for the payment of a sum ranging from 250 to 600 euros.

The investigations made it possible to identify three inhabitants of Vesoul, who animated this network locally. They were taken into custody in mid-July and admitted their involvement. About fifty fraudsters were identified locally and confessed to having illegally bought the highway code of the car or motorcycle.

120,000 euros raised

The investigation determined that an examination center of the Dekra sign located in the Val-de-marne (94) validated all these highway codes, or some 1,400 highway codes at the national level.

The manager and sole employee was arrested and placed in custody on Wednesday and admitted the facts of which he is accused. The traffic would have allowed him to acquire about 120,000 euros and a "large sum of money" was seized at his home, said the gendarmes. The center concerned was immediately closed by the management of Dekra on Wednesday.

The list of suspected fraudsters was transmitted by the public prosecutor to all the prefectures of France in order to withdraw the benefit of the examinations and de facto the permit of those who obtained it.
