This Saturday, according to the prosecutor of the Republic of Evreux, an inmate of the prison of Val-de-Reuil was placed in custody for attempted murder of a prison guard. The incident occurred on Friday when the 26-year-old inmate, "followed for radicalization", called a guard for a landline phone problem.

An inmate of the prison of Val-de-Reuil, in the Eure, was placed in custody for attempted murder of a prison guard, announced Saturday the prosecutor of the Republic of Evreux, Rémi Coutin. The incident occurred on Friday when the 26-year-old inmate, "followed for radicalization", called a guard for a landline phone problem.

Inmate serving 15-year prison sentence

While the guard "checked the phone, the inmate (...) tried to strangle him and deliver several blows with what appears to be at this stage a homemade knife," the magistrate said. "The guard managed to ward off the blows and set off his alarm. Other guards intervened and managed to subdue the attacker," he said. Arrived in January in Val-de-Reuil, the detainee "is serving a sentence of 15 years in prison for aggravated rape pronounced by the Val-de-Marne Assize Court in 2017," according to the prosecutor.

On September 12, the detainee "also received an 18-month sentence for violence against guards committed in a prison in the north," added Coutin, adding that "the investigation was entrusted to the judicial police of Rouen". The magistrate did not provide details on the state of health of the supervisor.
