A man with a knife spread terror Thursday morning in a park in Annecy, injuring several people including eight young children before being arrested by the police. The suspect is 31 years old and a Syrian national. He was taken into custody for attempted murder.

An individual attacked several people with a knife including several children, this Thursday in a park in Annecy in Haute-Savoie. According to information from Europe 1, eight children were injured, two of them in absolute emergency.

Unknown to all files

The individual of Syrian nationality, born on 1 October 1991, entered French territory legally. He submitted his asylum application to the Ofpra on 28 November 2022, under the normal procedure. It should be noted that every Syrian is eligible for asylum. He had, in the meantime, been granted refugee status in Sweden by a decision of 26 April 2023. His request for France had therefore become moot.

According to information from Europe 1, the suspect was screened by the DGSI in November 2022. No particular danger had been noted at that time. It is unknown to all files, police and judicial.

Taken into custody for attempted murder

Quickly arrested this Thursday morning by the police, he was placed in custody for attempted murder. He was not injured. According to information from Europe 1, his words were confused during police custody. At this stage, the national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office, joined by Europe 1, is not seized. The magistrates are currently analysing and evaluating the elements transmitted to them. The terrorist classification is not retained for the moment.
