Phones, practically, have become a part of our body. These devices are indispensable in our lives and accompany us every day to keep in touch with the world, entertain us or even make the purchase.

However, despite this essentiality and the qualitative increase they experience year after year, their intensive use causes the shortening of their useful life, something that, taking into account its price, does not seem casual.

And it is not, since the existence of planned obsolescence is a reality and, in fact, the European Union is fighting against it. But while this fight against the powerful multinationals reaches some port, here are some recommendations to avoid the premature death of your mobile phone.

Check apps you don't use

The memory of today's devices allows the download of a large number of applications But how many of those applications are given real use? The more overloaded your phone's storage is, the less its lifespan will last. Therefore, it is advisable to review those programs that we do not use frequently, to see if it is really necessary to occupy a space in our terminal.

In the case of Android, if you do not want to delete those applications that you do not visit, there is the option to free up RAM. To do this you must access the settings of your phone, select "Battery and care of the device", and, once there, click on Memory and Clean Now. Thus, your phone will close all applications that are consuming RAM in the background and slowing down its operation.

On iOS, on the other hand, you can download the application to avoid the deletion of your data. To do this, go to settings, open the "General" tab and select "iPhone Storage". There you will see a list of applications in which you can mark those that you do not use but do not want to delete, to download and keep them without occupying so much storage space.

Take care of the battery

According to the Premature Obsolescence Barometer prepared by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), battery wear is the main cause of breakdown of mobile phones.

The change of the phone, on a large number of occasions, is caused by the loss of autonomy in its use due to the poor durability of the battery. Therefore, to keep it in good condition it is necessary:

  • Keep the load between 20% and 80%.
  • Do not use it while it is charging.
  • Control the temperature of the device so that it does not overheat.
  • Use the original charger.

In addition, you can check the battery status, both on iOS and Android, through the phone settings. It is common for the manufacturer to recommend its replacement after some wear and tear.

Update your system

The update of the operating system is the main weapon used by large companies to cause the user to change phones. They stop offering updates on their older devices, thus encouraging the purchase of their new products.

Therefore, while updating the system is possible on your phone, it is best to always keep it in its latest version, to enjoy all the improvements and greater security.

You will be aware of these updates through a notification that usually appears constantly on your screen, and from there you can choose to do it at the moment or to be carried out automatically during the night.

Consider renting

Currently, there are mobile phone leasing companies that allow the periodic replacement of your device. Rentik, for example, is one of these companies that offer a rental service in which you can enjoy a state-of-the-art mobile for a certain time, in exchange for a fixed monthly fee.

These types of companies also offer insurance that covers theft, damage or breakage, in case the useful life of your phone runs out before suffering the attack of planned obsolescence.

Through this option you can avoid the premature death of your phone and all that previous process in which the phone begins to slow down and lose autonomy of use.

Factory reset

Finally, if you do not want to change your phone, returning it to the original configuration and memory can be an option to extend the life of the device.

This action completely debugs the state of the terminal, but before doing it, make sure you keep the photos, documents and files you want to keep. To do this, you must move them to your computer, make a backup or store them in the cloud, a task that, if you do it frequently, will not be very expensive.

On Android, to return the phone to its factory state you can do it from the settings, accessing the "General management" section and pressing "Factory reset".

In the case of your mobile is from Apple the process is similar: select "Transfer or Reset iPhone" in the general section of the settings and you can enjoy your terminal as if you had just got it.
