A daughter in her 40s who left the body of her mother at home for over two years in order to continue receiving pensions has been handed over to trial in custody.

The 3rd Criminal Division of the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office announced that it had arrested and indicted a 47-year-old A on charges of abandoning a corpse, neglect under the Elderly Welfare Act, and violating the National Pension Act.

Mr. A is accused of leaving the body of his mother, who was 76 years old at the time of death, in a villa in Ganseok-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon from August 2020 to last month.

On the 11th of last month, the police were dispatched after receiving a report from Mr. A's sister, "I came because I couldn't get in touch with her mother, but her sister who lives with her doesn't open the door."

The police found a note from Mr. A written 'My mother died in August 2020' inside the house and made an emergency arrest.

Mr. A, who lived alone with his mother, stated in a police investigation, "He did not report the death because he feared that the pension coming from her mother would be cut off."

For 28 months after his mother died, the pension that Mr. A received instead is around 15 million won.

Mr. A is also accused of neglecting her mother, who had difficulty moving on her own due to diabetes, etc., by not treating her mother properly even at the time of her survival.
