A mother in her 20s who killed her 2-year-old son after going out for a long time at home alone was arrested by the police.
The Women and Youth Investigation Unit of the Incheon Police Agency announced today (2nd) that it has urgently arrested Mr. A (24, female) on charges of child abuse and death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.
Mr. A is accused of leaving her 2-year-old son alone in the house at her home in Michuhol-gu, Incheon City for three days from 2 pm on the 30th of last month and going out to die.
He returned home at 2:00 am today and called 119 about 3:30 am, an hour and a half later, saying, "The child is not breathing."
When fire and paramedics arrived at the scene, no trauma was identified on the child, but he was already dead.
Mr. A, who was sitting next to his deceased son, replied, "I was embarrassed and couldn't do it quickly" to the paramedic's question, "Why didn't you report it sooner?"
The police arrested Mr. A after confirming the charges of neglecting the child.
Mr. A told the police that he was "separate from his husband" and did not state why he went out with only his son.
The police requested an autopsy to the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to confirm the cause of death of B, while investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
A police official said, "We plan to further investigate the suspect and confirm the exact circumstances of the crime to determine whether to apply for an arrest warrant."
