Five Russians who came to Korea to escape the war in Ukraine have been staying at Incheon International Airport for several months.

I applied for refugee status to the Korean government, but the Ministry of Justice refused to review it, saying that simple evasion of military service does not qualify as refugee grounds.

Tomorrow, the court will judge again whether this decision of the Ministry of Justice is correct.

] There are five Russians in all who are stranded in the departure hall of Incheon International Airport.

Three of them arrived in October of last year and two in November, so they have been staying at Incheon Airport for at least two months over the years.

According to a CNN report, the story goes like this.

When Russia issued a mobilization order for the war with Ukraine in September last year, these five men decided to go to Korea to avoid conscription.

I applied for refugee review after arriving in Korea, but I was caught up in the difficult domestic refugee review.

The Ministry of Justice rejected the screening itself, saying that 'simple evasion of military service does not qualify as a refugee reason'.

Stranded in the airport, they are virtually homeless in the departure and duty-free areas of the airport.

We are provided with one lunch a day, and we buy bread and drinks for the rest.

You have to hand-wash and change your clothes yourself, and it is an unstable situation, but there is no medical support for mental health.

Human rights groups such as the Refugee Human Rights Network filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission on the 30th of last month, claiming that these five Russians were virtually neglected.

In addition, the lawsuit requesting the cancellation of the Ministry of Justice's decision not to refer to the refugee examination is scheduled to be judged in court tomorrow.
