Today (24th), the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, Jeju Island was windy and snowy in a cold wave, and both the sky and sea roads were cut off.



Entrance to Hallasan Mountain and traffic on mountainous roads were also restricted.



The Jeju Regional Meteorological Administration announced that heavy snow warnings and cold wave warnings are currently in effect in mountainous areas of Jeju Island, and heavy snow advisories and cold wave warnings are in effect in areas other than mountainous areas.

A strong wind warning has been issued for all land areas in Jeju Island and a storm warning has been issued for all seas.



As of 10:00 a.m., 16.1 cm of Sajebi, 16 cm of Samgakbong, and 10.5 cm of Eorimok were accumulated on Hallasan Mountain.



Areas other than mountainous regions also recorded snowfalls of 0.4 cm in Jeju, 0.5 cm in Seogwipo, 4.3 cm in Typhoon Center, and 2.3 cm in Pyoseon.



The temperature also dropped dramatically, with the daily minimum temperature of -3.2 degrees in Jeju, -3.3 degrees in Seogwipo, -4.7 degrees in Seongsan, and -3 degrees in Gosan. It is showing cold weather, such as -13.8 degrees in high mountains.



The wind was also strong, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed was 34.7m per second in Gosan, 31.6m in Woljeong, 25.5m in Jeju Airport, 22.5m in Jeju, and 19.6m in Seongsan.



Due to the effect of the heavy snow warning in the mountain area, entry to Hallasan Mountain was completely controlled.



In addition, due to snow and ice on the roads, the current mountain roads, 1100 Road and 516 Road, were completely closed.



Jeju Airport, where strong wind warnings and sudden change warnings are in effect, canceled all flights departing and arriving today.



The Jeju Airport Passenger Terminal is crowded with canceled flight passengers trying to book an alternative flight from the morning.



The sea route was also cut off due to the storm warning.

According to the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority's Jeju Flight Management Center, the operation of 10 passenger ships on eight routes connecting Jeju and other regions, Marado and Gapado passenger ships, and Udo sailing ships were all restricted.



Jeju Island started responding to minimize damage from heavy snow, strong winds, and cold waves, such as raising the emergency level of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters to Level 2 as of 5:00 am on the same day and operating 24-hour emergency work.
