Police have applied for an arrest warrant for a man in his 40s who hit and killed a motorcycle deliveryman while driving drunk.



According to the Incheon Seobu Police Station, a 42-year-old doctor A, who has applied for an arrest warrant for fleeing under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act, had a drink with the staff of the Incheon Clinic B where he works and returned home to Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. It was investigated that he had an accident and fled.



In a police investigation, Mr. A claimed that "he didn't know he hit a person" or "I thought he hit something like an object", but he is known to have stated that he was dozing at the time of the accident.



Mr. A is accused of driving an SUV while drinking at an intersection in Wondang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon at around 0:20 am yesterday (20th), hitting and killing C, a 36-year-old motorcycle deliveryman, and running away.



Mr. A crossed the center line while going straight on the road with 6 lanes one way, and it was found that he crashed into Mr. C's motorcycle waiting for a left turn signal on the opposite side.



After the accident, Mr. A drove another 500m, got out of the car, checked the broken part, abandoned his vehicle and ran away.



He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.



The police who received the report arrested Mr. A about 1km away from the scene of the accident at around 2:20 am yesterday (20th), two hours later, based on CCTV footage.



At the time of arrest, Mr. A's blood alcohol level was 0.069%, which was the license suspension level.



Mr. C is known to have worked at a delivery agency for about a year, and he was delivering hamburgers at the time of the accident.



The police are continuing further investigation as Mr. A's statements come and go about the circumstances of the accident and the details of the escape.



The questioning of the suspect before the arrest of Mr. A will be held at the Incheon District Court from 2:00 pm today, and whether to arrest him will be decided by evening.
