Today (20th) morning, a big fire broke out in Guryong Village, which is called the last shantytown in Seoul.

About 60 houses in the form of temporary buildings were burned and around 500 residents were evacuated.

The fire department is checking whether there are any casualties.

The fire broke out in District 4 of Guryong Village around 6:27 am today and spread to the surrounding area.

At around 7:01 am, a report was received that the fire was spreading to the entrance of District 5.

The fire destroyed about 60 houses, a total of 2,700 square meters, and the authorities found that 62 people were affected by 44 houses.

The fire department and the Gangnam-gu Office evacuated about 500 residents of the 4th, 5th and 6th districts and extinguished the fire while building a defense line to prevent the flames from spreading further to nearby Guryongsan.

The fire department issued the second stage of response at 7:26 am and deployed 10 firefighting helicopters from nearby fire departments and Gyeonggi-do and the Forest Service.

About 500 firefighting and police personnel, 61 units of equipment, about 100 soldiers, and 300 personnel from the Gangnam-gu Office were mobilized.

We are also looking for residents who could not evacuate.

Victims will be temporarily staying in four hotels in Gangnam-gu.

According to Gangnam-gu, there are about 666 households living in Guryong Village.

By district, there are 154 people in 96 households in District 4, 106 people in 57 households in District 5, and 219 people in 142 households in District 6.

The fire authorities believe that the Guryong Village, where the fire broke out, is that the fire spread quickly because the shacks built with flammable materials such as vinyl, plywood, and insulation called 'tteok cotton' were concentrated.

When a fire broke out, the city of Seoul sent an emergency text message asking "neighboring residents to evacuate quickly and move their vehicles."

President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is visiting Switzerland, ordered "to mobilize all available manpower and equipment from the fire department centered on the Minister of Public Administration and Security."

Nam Hwa-young, acting chief of the National Fire Agency, ordered the evacuation of people with reduced mobility, such as the elderly and the disabled.

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Gwang-ho went to the scene and directed the repair work.
