The 6th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutor's Office announced today (19th) the results of its investigation into the abuse of authority in personnel rights by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Unification, and announced that all five of them were put on trial.



It has been four years since the complaint was first filed against the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.



According to the prosecution, in September 2017, former Minister Baek and former chief Cho summoned four heads of agencies from four power companies, including Korea Western Power under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and demanded that they "resign by this week," regardless of the remaining term or performance. He is accused of having the heads of 11 affiliated public institutions resign by April 2018.



As a result of the investigation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, former Minister Yoo and former Chief Cho were suspected of receiving resignations from seven public institutions, including requesting resignation from the head of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning under the Ministry of Science and Technology in November 2017.



In the case of the Ministry of Unification, former Minister Cho and former Chief Cho are accused of requesting the resignation of the head of the North Korean Refugees Support Foundation under the Ministry of Unification in July 2017 and receiving the resignation saying, "Please resign as soon as possible."



In addition to the charges of requesting the resignation of the heads of public institutions affiliated with it, former Minister Baek provided exemplary answers to those who had already been nominated as the successor heads of public institutions such as the Korea District Heating Corporation in March 2018 and informed the interviewers of the internal affairs. was also charged with providing

Former Minister Baek, along with former personnel secretary Kim, was also accused of unfairly replacing executives of private organizations by requesting the resignation of the vice president of the Korea Plate Glass Industry Association, a private organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and appointing a person from the presidential election camp who had no expertise in the position. Prosecutors said they conducted a full-fledged investigation into this case after the Supreme Court sentenced a guilty verdict in January of last year in the Ministry of Environment case in which abuse of authority was carried out in the same way.



At the same time, the vice ministers who became involved in accordance with the instructions of the minister were suspended from prosecution, and former Blue House personnel secretary Kim Woo-ho and former administrative officer Park Sang-hyuk, who were believed to have ceased to act according to the instructions of the superior, were not prosecuted considering the roles and positions involved.
