A court sentenced a 60-year-old mother to probation for killing her severely disabled daughter whom she had cared for for 38 years.

Today (19th), Incheon District Court Criminal Division 14 (Chief Judge Ryu Gyeong-jin) sentenced A (64), who was charged with murder without detention, to 3 years in prison and 5 years probation.

Mr. A was indicted without detention on charges of killing after feeding a large amount of sleeping pills to his daughter B in her 30s in an apartment in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon at around 4:30 pm on May 23 last year.

Mr. A said that after her crime, she took sleeping pills and tried to make an extreme choice, but she was found 6 hours later by her son who came to the apartment and saved her life.

Victim B said she was born with a grade 1 brain lesion and was handicapped. A few months before the incident, she was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer and started chemotherapy.

It is known that Mr. A, who was separated from her husband, who worked in another area for her livelihood, committed this crime while taking care of her husband B by defecating for 38 years.

Mr. A, who eventually stood in court, said, "At that time, I didn't have the strength to endure." "If I die, who will take care of my daughter? Let's end it here."

The son of Mr. A, who appeared as a witness at the decision trial held on December 6 of last year, said, "My mother was a person who always thought positively, but her sister (Mr. B) was diagnosed with cancer and had a hard time." There is," he testified, crying.

In the final statement that followed, Mr. A burst into tears, saying, "I should have gone with her daughter, but she survived alone, so I'm really sorry. She's a bad mother."

Mr. A's lawyer said, "The defendant who took care of the victim alone with Corona 19 was physically and mentally driven to the extreme." said.

The judge who looked at the case pointed out, "The accused committed murder and is guilty of a heavy burden."

However, he explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "The defendant took care of the victim for 18 years," and "I considered the fact that he committed the crime accidentally while seeing the victim suffering extreme pain during the course of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with colon cancer."

In addition, the judge said, "Families caring for the disabled are suffering solely from their own responsibility in a state where there is a lack of state or social support" for the prosecution's sentence of probation, not actual punishment, for 'murder' for which they sought 12 years in prison. “It is difficult to attribute this case solely to the accused,” he explained.
