A 30-year-old drunk driver driving about 40km from Seoul to Incheon was caught by the mobile phone automatic report function.

The Incheon Central Police Station announced today (18th) that it is investigating Mr. A in his 30s without detention on charges of driving under the influence of the Road Traffic Act.

Mr. A is accused of driving his Santa Fe vehicle drunk on a road in Shinheung-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon at around 4 am today (18th) and driving into a traffic light.

The traffic light was damaged in this accident, and it was repaired after not working for about an hour.

Fortunately, he suffered no casualties.

Mr. A's drunk driving was immediately discovered because of the automatic report function of Mr. A's mobile phone.

Certain mobile phone models have a function to automatically request rescue through a pre-recorded message such as 119/112 in situations where the user is judged to be in danger, such as a strong collision.

Immediately after the traffic light collision, Mr. A's cell phone reported an automatic voice message to 119 saying, "The user does not respond after a car crash."

Upon receiving a joint response request from the fire control room, the police dispatched to the scene and took a breathalyzer test, and Mr. A's blood alcohol level was found to be at the license revocation level (0.08% or more).

As a result of the investigation, Mr. A was found to have drunk and drove about 40 km from Yeouido, Seoul to Incheon.

A police official said, "A's cell phone model has an automatic report function, so a 'self-report' was received at the fire control room at the time."
