A man in his 40s who stalked him by threatening to set fire to his office with an oil can was sentenced to prison because the public defender who defended him in the past did not meet him.

Today (16th), Jinju Branch of Changwon District Court announced that it sentenced Mr. A (43) to 5 years in prison for violating the Act on Preliminary Arson of General Buildings and Punishment of Stalking Crimes.

From August to September of last year, Mr. A was handed over to trial on charges of stalking a total of 15 times, including visiting the workplace of Mr. B, a public defender, or sending a message to meet on his cell phone.

In addition, on the morning of September 18 last year, he is also accused of breaking into Mr. B's office with a plastic barrel containing diesel and trying to set it on fire.

At that time, it was found that Mr. A placed the oil can he had brought in advance on the office desk, took a picture, and sent a text message to Mr. B with the picture taken saying, "Come to the office. If you don't come, I'll start a fire."

The police, who were dispatched after receiving a report from Mr. B, urgently arrested Mr. A at the scene.

Fortunately, Mr. A did not set fire to the office, and there were no casualties.

Previously, it was known that Mr. A was defended by Mr. B, a public defender, when he was sentenced to prison for attempted murder in 2014.

Afterwards, Mr. A, who was released from prison in March 2021, sent a text message to Mr. B from August of last year to the effect of dating, unilaterally made an appointment, and if he did not come out at the time he said, he stalked several times, including making about 16 calls in one night. It was investigated that

Feeling threatened for his safety, Mr. B asked the police for personal protection (safety measures).

The judge said, "Severe punishment is inevitable for inflicting mental pain on a female lawyer at the time, such as threatening arson with a text message." It's hard to admit," he said.
