Director Cha Mo of the Korea Communications Commission was arrested last night (11th) for allegedly intervening in the TV Chosun reapproval review process three years ago.

The Seoul Northern District Court, which conducted interrogation of the suspect before arresting Cha, stated the reason for issuing the warrant, saying, "There is a call for the important charges and there is concern about destroying evidence."

However, for Director Yang Mo, who had been requested for an arrest warrant for the same charges, the warrant was dismissed, saying, "There are legally disputed parts, so it is necessary to guarantee the right to defense."

Cha and others are accused of urging the judges to lower TV Chosun's score in the March 2020 review for reapproval of a comprehensive programming channel.

The prosecution is expanding the investigation by capturing the circumstances that there was an illegal act in the process of selecting judges in charge of re-approval review, and additionally booked a policy member of the Korea Communications Commission.

Han Sang-hyuk, chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, issued a statement yesterday and strongly protested the prosecution's investigation.

Chairman Han refuted, saying, "The re-approval review was conducted independently, and the bureau, such as the bureau chief, played a limited role in supporting the review in a clerical way."

In addition, regarding the investigation by the prosecution and the recent audit by the Board of Audit and Inspection of the Korea Communications Commission, he said, "If it is to pressure the chairman to resign midway, it is an unfair act that should be stopped immediately."
